Omar Powell Scholarship Fund
The BMTT is pleased to announce the Omar Powell Scholarship Fund in honor of the founder of the Black Man’s Think Tank Conference at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
As an honor and legacy to its namesake, we will award one $1000 scholarship each year to a financially needy student, who has at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 Scale. To be considered, each applicant must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) and receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) to help determine his or her eligibility. In addition, each applicant must write a 500 word essay and be able to demonstrate his or her involvement in community service. The application deadline is April 30, 5:00 p.m. EST. The award recipient will be notified by May 30 and the payment will be made to the recipient’s college or university. See the link below to download the application
Endow a Scholarship Fund in Your Name
Here’s how it works
You determine the awardees’ selection requirements and put money into an account setup for this purpose (e.g., endow the fund). We market and administer the fund on your behalf according to your selection requirements. A special committee will be set up to award scholarships to eligible participants. All awardees and amounts awarded will be listed on our Web site and on our IRS Form 990. Your endowment amount may be tax deductible. Consult a tax professional. See the link below for more information and for the application.
The minimum endowment amount is $500. To get started, see the link below for the application.
College Internship and Federal Work Study Program
The BMTT College Internship and Federal Work Study Program facilitates the identification and placement of college students into for-profit and non-profit employment. Specifically, the BMTT markets this program to employers, colleges and universities, and post-secondary students. In addition, it helps support internship programs and federal work study programs for colleges and universities and for employers by providing technical assistance. Non-profit employers may be able to hire eligible college students via the Federal Work Study (FWS) program.
Small businesses seeking talented college students are encouraged to apply for this program. See the link below for more information. Also, see the benefits of becoming a BMTT Small Business Member.
